Local Studies Conference

Issues To provide General Council with a report on planning for the 1997 National Local Studies Conference.

The conference will be held from 19-20 September 1997 at Heritage House, South Perth. The theme of the conference is Timekeepers: forging links in local studies. The conference convenor is Jenni Woodroffe. The conference will be opened by deputy mayor, councillor Lauraine Macpherson. Professor Luciana Duranti will provide the keynote address at the opening of the conference. A registration brochure was recently completed and forwarded to all members of the Local Studies Section, public libraries, historical societies, local government officials, previous state conference attendees, and it is also being publicised on various lists on the net. The conference was also featured in the last issue of the national newsletter Local link and will also be promoted in the forthcoming issue. Earlybird registrations for the conference close on 1 August 1997.
