Exhibition and sponsorship prospectus
The exhibition and sponsorship prospectus has been distributed to all organisations who exhibited and/or sponsored the 1996 Melbourne conference, and to other organisations recommended by the Exhibition and Sponsorship Committees. It is recommended that if you or your organisation are interested in exhibiting at the 1998 conference, to contact Hartley Management Group (ph 08 8363 4399, e-mail sgt@ozemail.com.au) as soon as possible as the spaces are selling FAST! Thirty booths have been sold to date with several making payments in full. One sponsor (Ebsco) has negotiated a package with two or three close to committing their organisations. Call for papers
The Call for Papers has been distributed with the July issue of inCite and includes details of the program structure and information about the range of sessions which will form the conference and the selection criteria which will be applied in selecting speakers. The closing date for the submission of abstracts is 3 November 1997. In addition to proposing abstracts, the Program Committee is encouraging sections (and individuals) to also nominate possible speakers who can then be approached by the Committee. The Fringe
A subcommittee of the Program Committee met with staff members of Adelaide Institute of TAFE (Library Technicians) and the University of South Australia to canvass interest in the organisation of a Fringe conference which will target students and new graduates. It was agreed that The Fringe would be an excellent opportunity for students and new graduates to meet and exchange ideas, and participate in the conference and would be held on Saturday and Sunday 24-25 October 1998 at The Orphanage Teachers' Centre. Several students have already expressed interest in being involved in the planning of The Fringe and the committee is tagetting others. The web page
As planning for the conference progresses, the web page is being constantly updated. It is worth checking the page for the latest information. Jeannine Hooper has placed some very good links to wineries and country areas on the 'Adelaide' pages which may be useful for other reasons! The latest updates are the exhibition and sponsorship pages with the program page to follow soon. As abstracts for papers are accepted, these will be added to the web site which will ultimately provide an excellent way of interacting with the conference speakers prior to and following the conference.
Budget
An abbreviated budget and cash flow statement as at 24 June 1997 follows (full budget will be tabled at the meeting). With sponsorship and exhibition monies coming in, the cash flow is looking very healthy at this stage. I am discussing with both Virginia Walsh and Graham Teague (our PCO) strategies for taking into account any budgetary implications of the ALIA/ACLIS merger and decisions which General Council may make regarding institutional members.
