Aboriginal and torres strait islander employment strategy

Issues A new agreement is being negotiated with the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA) in accordance with changes in the DEETYA standard contract. It has been agreed with DEETYA to commence the contract from July 1.

Program administration
Rosemarie Sebastian-Pillai has taken over responsibility for the administration of the program. Ms Sebastian-Pillai is currently reviewing the documentation available for employers and cadets to ensure that it complies with the new agreement and DEETYA guidelines. A promotional plan to secure new cadets is being developed. A status report on cadetships will be circulated prior to the meeting.

Co-operation with the Australian Society of Archivists
Discussions have been held between ALIA, the Australian Society of Archivists Inc (ASA) and DEETYA on ASA participation with ALIA in the Strategy. ALIA is proceeding to formalise this arrangement with the ASA, which will result in ALIA and ASA working together to offer cadetships and scholarships in the archives sector, to be administered under the ALIA Strategy. A copy of correspondence from the ASA president will be circulated prior to the meeting.
