An interview with Sarah Walker

Lyn Linning

Sarah Walker was born in Sydney in 1965. She completed a BA Communication at the University of Technology, Sydney, while working as a journalist, magazine publisher and chief subeditor of the national New Weekly magazine. Her publications include short stories in magazines and anthologies (including the 40-part fiction column Apartment 7). She has recently made a successful foray into television work as a story editor and writer for a national drama series. Her publication for young adults include 'Hide and Seek', title story in the anthology edited by Jenny Pausacker (1996), and three novels: Simple Things (1996), The Years of Freaking Out (1997) and Camphor Laurel (1998), all published by Pan Macmillian.

Between sessions at the Fourth National Conference of the Children's Book Council of Australia (May 1998) Sarah discussed her background and writing for young adults with Lyn Linning...

Lyn Linning teaches in the School of Language and Literacy Education at Queensland University of Technology. Among her recent works is A Literature Based Approach to Bullying for Upper Primary and Lower Secondary Students, co-authored with Margaret Phillips and Rayma Turton.
