The world's attention will be focused on Australia when Sydney hosts the Olympic Games between 15 September and 1 October 2000. Our nation has a proud and unbroken history of commitment to the Olympic Movement. Other than Greece we are the only country to have competed at every Modern Olympic Games. Over one hundred years since the first modern Games were held in Athens, in 1896, the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) is determined to carry on the Olympic ideals by providing an environment in which every competing athlete will have the opportunity to excel...

The three authors of this article are all managers with SOCOG.
