School Libraries Section [New South Wales]

The School Libraries Section [NSW] provides the mechanism for people interested in school libraries in NSW to work together towards common goals with many activities designed to promote school librarianship.

general information

What are the benefits?

  • Linking with other sectors of librarianship.
  • Linking with other types of libraries such as public, special, academic, state and national, helps to maintain the profile of school libraries and to ensure that school libraries keep an active role in the national information network.
  • Linking with other important organisations.
  • Linking with other organisations in the field of librarianship, education, children's literature and technology creates a wider perspective for the teacher-librarian.
  • The committee of the School Libraries Section (NSW division) provides a voice to lobby and interact with government. As a professional association, we interact with State and Federal Ministers of Education and other bodies which influence the development of school libraries, the place of information literacy and the role of the teacher-librarian.
  • Professional development: Each year a number of activities is planned to provide teacher-librarians with the opportunity for professional development.
  • AliaS newsletter/website: The School Libraries Section (NSW division) has its own online newsletter, AliaS, which is provided as part of membership. It contains feature articles on developments in teacher-librarianship and a forum to address the issues in the role of the teacher-librarian.
