Professional communication through journal articles

Maxine K Rochester - School of Information Studies, Charles Sturt University-Riverina

Abstract
Examines what is known about professional communication in the field of library and information science, particularly for journal articles. We know a good deal about articles, their authors and their citing behaviour. Two main research methods have been used to study the articles: bibliometrics, which includes citation analysis, and content analysis. Some studies using citation analysis to evaluate academic programs and individual researchers are reviewed. There have also been studies of the journals read by librarians and the use of journal articles.
