Dietrich Borchardt began publishing a News Sheet for the newly created UCRLS in 1960; ten years later, this was expanded into a fully fledged journal designed to feature major articles. AARL soon became an important part of the
Australian academic library scene, its content reflecting current developments, its statistics supplement recording annual growth. Borchardt was active in soliciting contributions and ensuring expression was of a high standard. His work on the journal is a
major contribution to Australian librarianship.
