A citation analysis of Australian Economic Journals

Russell Smyth

This paper reports the results from a citation analysis of five economics journals between 1993 and 1997. The main contribution of the paper is to provide some insights into which journals Australian economists cite. The findings suggest that there is a core of important journals which Australian economists use; however, some of the most cited titles differ from those identified in previous overseas studies. This has important implications for academic libraries faced with a choice between competing titles in the economics area, when most are being forced to cut subscriptions to overseas periodicals.
